Overview
If you intend to join your partner/fiancé and live with them permanently, you need to apply for a Spouse visa.
Who can apply
You can apply for a Spouse visa if your partner is settled in the UK, or holds British citizenship or asylum status.
You must also meet the following conditions to be eligible for a Spouse visa:
- can speak and understand English at the required level
- meet the financial requirements – this will vary depending on your circumstances
Extend your visa or switch to this category
If you’re already in the UK, you should be able to extend your Spouse visa, or switch to this category.
Settlement
After a certain time residing in the country and meeting the relevant requirements, you and your dependants will be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and stay as long as you like.
